We had girls who came to work at the school for a week. 2 had booked quite last minute just before we left to go there and while there Sofiya phoned and asked if her cousin’s friend Lola could come as she had expressed a real desire to come also. We said “just bring her along.” So our 3 girls Sofiya, Lola and Yukiko arrived on the 26th May—they spent time playing with the children in the pre-school and advising the teachers and on the Friday we planned the 30k trek to the source of the Oum R’bia (river) Some of Hmad’s nieces said they would like to come and also Zeineb and her husband Mustapha and their daughter Marwa with whom the girls were staying said they wanted to come too. So we hired a people carrier (of sorts) and we were all collected early in the morning and drove to a place where we were dropped off and walked the 7k to Agelmam Lake and had breakfast in a Berber tent. Sadly there were no monkeys for our visitors to see this year. We then set off replenished and full of energy to complete the next 23k to the source. We had a fantastic day. The weather was perfect. Everyone had such fun and at one point we were all in a line dancing and singing Berber style. We finally arrived at the Source in late afternoon and the girls were amazed at the 40 springs of water gushing out and the little booths made where rugs had been placed on the flat rocks and cushions and small tables. We all dipped our tired and hot feet in the very cold water and ate tagine and drank coca cola. These girls are trying to raise funds for Hannan by completing the Trek so please consider giving even £1 Yukiko has a virgin money giving page. Her full name is Yukiko Kinoshita.
